Livingston, NJ – Seth Kamens, Managing Member at Kamens & Associates was recently featured in a NJ.com article, “The SALT Deduction Grew. Is it a boon or boondoggle for N.J. taxpayers?” by Karen Price Mueller.
Kamens and Mueller discussed the changes to the SALT deduction plan over recent years. The SALT deduction was unlimited until 2017, when it was capped to $10,000. This year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) amended the limit to $40,000 for married taxpayers and singles, and $20,000 for married taxpayers who file separately.
Kamens pointed out that many New Jersey residents who file for taxes in 2025 will not see the notable changes they were anticipating. “Unless your property taxes and your (state tax) withholding are significant, you’re not going to see a massive change.”
Kamens also discussed who the SALT deduction will benefit. He explained, “(The higher SALT deduction) isn’t going to help lower incomes. It’s not going to help the rich…The value is really for people in the higher upper middle class.” He estimated that those who earn between $250,000 and $500,000 will be in the best position.
